The Ballan Court House is used by the Ballan Shire Historical Society as a local history record and resource centre. The building stands on the land of the Wathaurong people.
Built between 1872 and 1876 the building is one of the earliest remaining small courthouses in country Victoria.
Ballan Court House received a new lease of life through major conservation works in late 2015. The works involved underpinning the existing footings, re-plastering and repair of brickwork. The Ballan Shire Historical Society have now moved themselves and their collections back into building.
