Avoca Police Reserve

Historic justice precinct in the Central Highlands

6 Davey Street, Avoca

Dja Dja Wurrung land

Today

The Avoca Police Reserve is part of a precinct that includes a Police REsidence, Powder Magazine and Lock-up. The Police Residence is currently leased as a private residence.

These buildings stand on the land of the Dja Dja Wurrung people.

Yesteryear

Constructed in 1859, the Police Residence is one of the earliest examples of a police building in Victoria.

The precinct and all its buildings are a significant link to Avoca's goldmining past and former status as the administrative centre of the region.

Working Heritage was appointed to manage the police residence and associated buildings in 2003.

The future

Working Heritage will continue to manage these buildings, maintaining their cultural significance and relationship to each other.
