The Avoca Police Residence is part of a precinct that includes the Avoca Powder Magazine and Avoca Police Lock-up – also managed by Working Heritage. The Police Residence is currently leased as a private residence.
These buildings stand on the land of the Dja Dja Wurrung people.
Constructed in 1859, the Police Residence is one of the earliest examples of a police building in Victoria.
The precinct and all its buildings are a significant link to Avoca's goldmining past and former status as the administrative centre of the region.
Working Heritage was appointed to manage the police residence and associated buildings in 2003.
Working Heritage will continue to manage these buildings, maintaining their cultural significance and relationship to eachother.
